The Magic Stone (also called the Pendant Stone or Jade Orb), known as Gaia in the original version, is an item created by the ancient Pendant civilization to lead its owner to the location of Disk Stone and/or the soul of the legendary Phoenix. In the evil hand, it's also capable of locating the original body of Moo. The catch is that only someone of the ancient Tochikan bloodline can operate it.

In the Anime

In the past, the ancient created Magic Stone to use as a power source for Final Gate in an attempt to separate Moo's soul from its physical body. The plan succeeded, ending the war, but also separated the soul of Suzaku the Phoenix, Moo's archenemy, into five pieces, eventually reborn as five monsters: Mocchi, Suezo, Golem, Tiger, and Hare. One of the stones were inherited and passed on in Holly's village, eventually fell into her father position. However, the Elder feared Holly's father power over the Stone, and banished him from the village. The stone's ownership eventually fell into Holly's hands after the destruction of her village at the order of Moo.

The stone was originally created to house a part of Suzaku's soul, which is why it shows a firebird within it whenever activated. When the user concentrates on what they wish to find, the stone glows yellow and the firebird points the way to the location like a compass. Because Holly only understood the power of the stone on the surface, she initially had a hard time unlocking its potential as more than just a searching device.

Believing in the legend that the Stone will lead her to Suzaku who can bring the dead monsters back to life and purify the evil monsters, Holly and her friend Suezo left their hometown in search for the legendary firebird, not knowing that Suezo was a part of Suzaku's soul. The Magic Stone however, didn't lead the two directly to Suzaku, but to a shrine that summoned Genki from the Real World who also brought forth Mocchi from his CD, Golem, Tiger, and eventually Hare, forming the team of Searcher, before it led them to many locations around the world, battling the force of Moo along the way while also letting the Searcher gathered many valuable friends and allies.

Along the way, Moo briefly stole and misused the Stone's power, as he possessed Holly's Father's body who also had access to the ancient bloodline, to locate his original body, and was one of the reasons of the massacre of Holly's village as later revealed by Naga. The Stone was taken back by Pixie, but not before Moo successfully completed his objective and found his original body deep in the mountain far in the north.

Despite being able to merge with his original body through Final Gate, Moo found out that his body was unable to withstand sunlight due to it being frozen within the ice far too long, requiring the Magic Stone's power once more in order to complete his transformation, sending General Durahan to retrieve the Stone for the final process. However, after the Stone was retrieved, Durahan betrayed Moo and took the Stone for himself, knowing that Moo's power would never be complete without it. Despite Durahan's effort, the Stone ultimately fell back into Moo's hands following a struggling battle between him, the Searcher, and the treacherous Lilim. Using the Stone as the power source, the Weeds successfully completed Moo's transformation, turning him into an unstoppable monstrosity and eliminated his previous weakness.

Although they lost the Magic Stone to Moo, the Searcher was able to find the souless body of Suzaki hidden within the frozen valley near the Jills' Village from the last direction pointed by the Stone, and, with the sacrifice of Mocchi, Suezo, Golem, Tiger, and Hare, allowing them to revive Suzaku to its former glory and combat against Moo.

In the third season, the stone is the key to unlocking Moo’s Mystery Disc and releasing Holly's father from the evil spirit within. The stone amplifies Holly's willpower to save her father from his fate. Later, General Durahan and his goons use the stone to unlock Moo's spirit from the disc, but are consumed by the evil spirit and transformed into Ruby Knight.

In the Games

The Magic Stone (like the other Gaea Stones) can also be used as a power source, much like a battery or a nuclear reactor. The Pendant scientists who helped create the stones also used it to power quite a bit of their weapons technology. The stone projects an energy field which reactivates any of the Pendent machinery within a short distance. You discover more about the Pendant Stone and the other Gaea Stones in Monster Rancher 4.

Finally, the stone is also important in drawing out the last piece of Suzaku's soul, which was shattered into five Monster Orbs and hidden within The Searchers' monsters. The stone fuses the pieces back together. You discover more about this ability in Monster Rancher Advance 2.

Thus it is said: "The stone shall choose its owner, and only the chosen one shall gain its power."
